Our Story

The name of the restaurant, 山城 (Shan Cheng), is the Chinese equivalent for ‘City Of Mountains’ , a name given to the city of Ipoh in Malaysia by its residences as its landscape is depicted by sprawling hills and mountains. Bearing synonymy to Ipoh’s moniker, Shan Cheng prides itself as the food provider who serves the most authentic Ipoh cuisines that hold dear to Ipoh natives.

Shan Cheng’s founders are sisters who hail from Ipoh , a place known for its good food and lush green scenery. Since young, they have been helping out with their mother, who is a noodle seller, in her business and has developed a flair for whipping up good food. Leaving Ipoh for Singapore to work for 10 years, they missed their mum’s and Ipoh’s cuisine deeply but aren’t able find the taste that is equivalent or anything faintly near it in Singapore. They thus founded Shan Cheng to reprise the food close to their hearts and to share the great taste with Malaysians, Singaporeans and everyone else. Notably, Shan Cheng’s house specials such as their Char Siew, Curry ,Ginger Duck and Shredded Chicken Hor Fun are prepared from secret recipes of the founders’ mother , palatable and unique at the same time, delighting food fans and critics alike.

Shan Cheng’s mission is to bring the local taste of Ipoh to Singaporeans, Malaysians and all who missed Ipoh’s cuisine or would like to give the original Ipoh fare a try. To preserve the authenticity, Shan Cheng directly imports ingredients such as coffee , Ipoh’s rice noodles or Hor Fun (河粉) and various sauces from Ipoh. Ipoh Hor Fun is the specialty of Shan Cheng, and besides staying true to its original goodness, the generous serving of ingredients that comes along with every variation of it simply makes it crowd-pleaser and is sure to make every foodie’s day.

Shan Cheng great service and food has also earned them the “Food and Service Excellence Award 2014” by the Singapore Enrich Group .
